Im not sure whether this statement is true, but I hope so and Id be very glad if it was. If one thinks about it, what do we need religion for? If anyone answers, we need to know what is right and what is wrong, well, it's rubbish. After all the thighs A. Camus and E. Fromm had said (not to mention F. Nietzche and many others) I can't understand why religion is still so strong in our (and others) society. I find it a horrible crime, when a child is taught to believe in the existence of some non-physical person or whatever it is. I believe it ties up his mind and can affect his development in a very negative way. Im not talking about Roman-Catholic god, it doesnt make any difference to me. I am aware of the fact, that faith and science have common source - a natural need of man to know why something is happening. This need is caused by the way human brain works. Today we can even observe it on a very simple (compared to human brain) computer neuron-like nets. But the difference between science and faith is crucial. If we see an apple falling from a tree, we can measure it's speed and many other things. We can do experiments, like Galileo did, to verify the real reason for the apple to fall. But faith considers something else: we want to know why unpleasant things happen to us, we want to know why do we suffer. Theres no way of verifying that (at least Ive never heard of it). Most of institutionalized religions are just tools of control over the people and I cant understand why it isnt enough just to love other people, why do we need god to tell us what to do. Actually it takes no more than a walk to a library to prove that Roman-Catholic faith (which I know best of all faiths) is self-denying in many places.
Only thing I can do is to show that I can be a happy man without lying to myself and that is what Im trying to do.
